ACHD Launches New Walking Program Aimed At History

The City of Mexico, Missouri, offers so much history that it often goes unnoticed. Most know we are known for two things: Saddlebred hourses and firebrick. But did you know we are also where the Warm Morning Stove was invented? And we are the adopted home and burial grounds of the Hangin’ Judge of Andersonville, a feared and infamous Civil War prisoner camp judge?

Each Month from April to Octover, the Audrain County Health Department will offer predetermined routes where residents can walk and learn about Mexico’s history. Each tour will feature a guide pointing out certain historical building, places, and event locations across the vibrant Audrain County community. It’s an opportunity to exercise your mind and body as you learn about the community.

Each tour will be one and a half miles long and take approximately an hour and a half to complete. They will also feature a trail car to assist those needing help during the walk.
