Why a Healthy Lifestyle Matters

In today’s fast-paced world, we often put others’ needs ahead of our own. Balancing responsibilities, meeting expectations, and managing stress can leave little time for consistently a implementing healthy lifestyle and behaviors. Over time, this imbalance may affect not only our mental health but also our ability to thrive and maintain health.

At the Audrain County Health Department’s Health and Wellness Academy, we believe prioritizing mental well-being and healthy behavior is the key to living a more meaningful and healthy life. That’s why we created the Free to Be You course—a six-week program that helps participants explore their potential, build resilience, and develop strategies to improve their overall health.

Why This Course is Important

The Free to Be You course provides a supportive and structured environment where participants can focus on personal growth and implementing healthy behaviors. Each session is designed to guide participants through a journey of self-awareness and self-improvement while offering practical strategies for managing stress, eating nutritious foods, moving your body, prioritizing sleep, supporting gut health, and sustaining well-being.

At ACHD, we emphasize Client-First Care, ensuring that every participant feels valued, supported, and empowered throughout their journey.

What You’ll Learn

Over the course of six weeks, participants will engage in guided discussions, activities, and exercises that promote well-being. Topics include:

  • Reflect on your past attempts for lifestyle changes/diets and identify your motivation that will help move you towards lasting change.

  • Discovering why we eat and then setting ourselves up for intuitive eating.

  • Dig deeper with key nutrition habits that have big impact on our health.

  • Moving our bodies in a way that feels good and improves health.

  • Connecting gut health with our mental health and overall health.

  • Develop habits and practices to maintain healthy behaviors over the long term.

Breaking Through Barriers to Growth

Many people face obstacles that hinder their journey to healthy lifestyles, the Free to Be You course helps participants recognize and overcome these barriers by fostering a supportive, judgment-free environment where they can focus on making meaningful changes that will contribute to overall health and well-being.

The Role of Community in Personal Growth

Growth is rarely achieved in isolation. Participants in the Free to Be You course join a community of like-minded individuals, creating opportunities for shared experiences, mutual support, and meaningful connections. By learning and growing together, participants often leave the course with both new tools for self-improvement and lasting friendships.

Empowering Participants Through Knowledge and Practice

This course blends education and practical application, ensuring participants can integrate what they learn into their daily lives. Through expert-led discussions, interactive exercises, and personalized feedback, participants gain the confidence and clarity needed to create lasting change.

Investing in self-discovery and mental well-being is one of the most important commitments you can make to yourself. Not only does it improve individual quality of life, but it also contributes to stronger relationships, healthier communities, and a more compassionate society.

At ACHD, we’re committed to helping individuals in our community achieve their full potential. The Free to Be You course reflects this mission by providing a roadmap for personal growth and emotional well-being.
